I began serving this sentence when I was 23, in 1987. Although I have no history of violence, weapons, or previous incarceration, I was wrong as a younger man to have participated in the distribution of cocaine. My long sentence is a consequence of those bad decisions I made in my early 20s. Through this Web site I publish content with hopes of inspiring others to overcome adversity in their lives. Many leaders have guided and mentored me through these more than 20 years that I have served already. In an effort to reconcile with society, I hope that my writings help others make better decisions and inspires some to reach their highest potential. During the time that I've been confined, I've worked consistently to develop skills that will help me succeed upon release. In 1992, Mercer University awarded my B.A. degree, and in 1995 Hofstra University awarded my M.A. degree. Working to make the most of my predicament, I've also published six books that describe various aspects of life in prison. I am hopeful that my work brings value to those studying corrections and to those who anticipate a journey through prison. With hopes that I hear from you, I wish you Godspeed and I thank you for your visit to MichaelSantos.net.
